taking summer in stride

Hi,

Since Friday was my last day of teaching for the school year, I've been taking summer in stride over this long weekend by bringing in fresh flowers, baking bread, making salads with garden greens, and going to potlucks. Last evening we had dinner at Alicia's beautiful home. It was certainly fun times with the mayfly and buttons magee families, topped off with a firepit at the end of the night.

Today M. & I slept in {way late} and made sheep and caterpillar shaped pancakes for brunch. He is out working in the garden and I feel like making a chocolate cake today.

Yes, I have to say, just two days into it, summer is off to a great start.

I hope you're having a grand long weekend!

ps. I'm turning comments off for a while so you can just visit as you like. I do love to hear from you so you can drop me an email anytime or visit at my flickr. :)

visions of summer

{top : proof that I can be messy. bottom : tags, cards, and jotters, oh my.}

Hi,

I'm taking a little break from printing momentarily to show you what is going on in the studio today. The sunny, warm, weather and some of the antique types I am printing, {like kids with derby cars, roosters, bicycles, kids eating watermelon, roses, record players, etc.} all have my thoughts drifting to summer. And it will be here soon!

So today I'm making some letterpress tags, cards, and some more jotters with these images, to add to the shop hopefully next week. These are so fun to make, I'm really just having a blast!

Have you laughed today?

whenever

Whenever I walk downtown this particular antique shop window always stops me because the arrangements are like still-life paintings. I always think, "I should take a few pictures here" and never do, for no particular reason, until today.

This morning at our artists' gathering Christy showed us the site for Lisa Hannigan and her artistically inspired videos. In particular the video for "I don't know" {which makes me want to do room-sized installation work} and then the video for "Lille" {which makes me think about the power of a story.} Whenever I visit Christy's home I feel like I'm stepping onto a sunbeam. It's true.

Was there something inspiring in your day?

sunday evening

I think these sugar snaps have the prettiest blooms. I wish I could cut a few to put in a vase, but I won't. | In the foreground are the bok choy which we are letting go to seed, to collect for next year. | Our peonies began to open this weekend!

Howdy,

How are you tonight?
We've spent the day weeding in the garden, and I weeded for five hours to be exact. And yes, I'm a tad tired. I can tell the back of my legs will be sore tomorrow and my fingertips are already sore. But that's ok. Our garden needed it, for sure. We also got a trailer full of mulch to spread around, which hopefully will help.

So I've been thinking about my summer plan since my summer officially begins at 3:30 pm this coming Friday. And as far as I've gotten is, each morning I would like to wake up, go walk, then come home and fix the coffee and weed in the garden a bit. Then head up for a day in the studio. Now, I just need to get my studio plan on. And it would be good for me to devise a reading plan.

But first, this week is shaping up to be pretty nice. For one, Emily's show opens Wednesday, YAY!! And tomorrow morning, a petite artists' gathering which is sure to be a treat. And of course, Friday, for reasons aforementioned.

What's on the agenda for your week? I sure hope it's tasty.

finishing off the evening with some fresh spinach and asparagus,
