5 facts

my sister {left} and myself, 1981

Good Saturday to you!
I'm procrastinating cleaning the house by doing this post.
I have been tagged by Karin : her blog : her flickr. Thank you Karin for thinking of me!

Here are the rules:

1. Link to your tagger and post these rules on your blog.
2. Share 5 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.
3. Tag 5 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well
as links to their blogs.
4. Let them know they are tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

my five facts:
. A memory: Once when my sister and I were riding trikes {her} and kick'n'go {me} in the front of our grandmother's apartment, I felt something hit the back of my head/neck. I start yelling at my sister {she was riding behind me} because I thought she had thrown a stick at me. My grandmother starts laughing {she always used to get so tickled, and laugh so much that her eyes would water, I loved that} because she knew what had happened... A bird flew overhead and pooped on me.

.. I always put my sock on my right foot before my left, and then my right shoe before my left. If I did it left first it would be like doing a backwards cartwheel {but I don't remember the last time I did a cartwheel}, or getting on a bike from a different side. I just have to do that way; I don't know why.

... One of my favorite treats is a good non-fat latte with pieces of dark chocolate. bliss.

.... In the fall and winter I wear a scarf EVERY SINGLE DAY. I'm always so much warmer if my neck is warm. Thankfully my mom is an avid knitter, and I have quite a collection of her scarves. Thanks Mom!

..... My favorite place to be right now is here, in my studio {built by this man}, working on this project.

...... I'm throwing in a sixth fact: I am very thankful and appreciative of all of you who visit here. I've met and am meeting many interesting and artistic people and I'm so glad! Thank you!

I am tagging these undoubtedly creative people whom I love to visit daily: Alicia, and you must go see beautiful Alicia's interview yesterday on the glass doorknob, it's fabulous!, Florence, Gretchen, Julie, Kathleen

Now I must go clean. Have a good weekend!

wallpaper pinhole project : progress & inspiration

Hello!
Wow, it's Friday again. I'm kind of glad too. Yesterday was stressful in our house and I'm hoping today is lighter. Nonetheless, I worked on this piece and am enjoying seeing it grow. I have now pinholed 1/4 of this first sheet of my WALLPAPER PINHOLE PROJECT. The sheet size is 20 in. x 28 in.

The bottom image I took at The Art Institute of Chicago Museum : Eastern Zhou Surface Decoration: Curl Patterns. 480-221 B.C., disks using a "grain pattern". When I saw these last week I had to take a photo because of the beautiful surface texture and it reminds me so much of pinhole.

I hope you enjoy your Friday all!
Heather

The Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef

One of the great things I saw in Chicago was this collective show: The Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef by the Institute For Figuring on view at the Chicago Cultural Center through December 16.
When I got to the show my eyes welled with tears because I was so happy to see it, {and because I didn't think I was going to be able to catch it}. I also wished my mom could be there; she was a weaver for many years and is now an avid knitter; she has a heart for texture. These three images show the scale of the project and mesmerising range of color. There were also pieces showing subtle shades of white, referring to the bleaching that is taking place in the coral reef; I'll show you those either tomorrow or Friday.
I found out about the show through Helle's blog. She is one of the talented participants in the show. Thank you Helle for posting about it.

: don't miss the {artist/designer} interviews this week at the glass doorknob, part of shari's Holiday guide '07.
