One of the great things I saw in Chicago was this collective show: The Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef by the Institute For Figuring on view at the Chicago Cultural Center through December 16.
When I got to the show my eyes welled with tears because I was so happy to see it, {and because I didn't think I was going to be able to catch it}. I also wished my mom could be there; she was a weaver for many years and is now an avid knitter; she has a heart for texture. These three images show the scale of the project and mesmerising range of color. There were also pieces showing subtle shades of white, referring to the bleaching that is taking place in the coral reef; I'll show you those either tomorrow or Friday.
I found out about the show through Helle's blog. She is one of the talented participants in the show. Thank you Helle for posting about it.
: don't miss the {artist/designer} interviews this week at the glass doorknob, part of shari's Holiday guide '07.
