Heather Smith Jones Art on facebook

This morning I set my tea cup down, preparing to paint. Then I stopped to look at this scene atop my typecase. This collection of handmade and found treasures made me pause, and smile. A linoleum print by my sister when she was a girl, a mug (in background) made by my dad, a branch segment I found in the wetlands, a bottle M. found that I try to keep fresh with garden flowers, a wooden box M. made, a quilted camera strap by Erin, a coaster by Rachel, and a brownie camera that belonged to my mom. All good don't you think?

Also I want to let you know I have begun a facebook page for my art. So far I have a few albums started: panel paintings, watercolor, a Water Paper Paint album, and an album of recent books to which I've contributed. I have a few other albums in mind as well. This facebook page may be the place where I post quick snaps (with my phone) of what's going on in the studio, peeks at new work, announcements, and links for purchase. Honestly, I'm not exactly sure at this point what else it will encompass, it will be a work in progress!

So, won't you please go like Heather Smith Jones Art!?

roses and other things

A few things:

film shots of our roses, from May

Moonrise Kingdom is so good, I want to see it again. We sat shoulder to shoulder, a cozy crowd in the balcony at Liberty Hall Saturday night. I had a Blue Sky Jamaican ginger ale to sip.

The routine 100+ degree temps we've been experiencing the past two weeks have broken way today to mere 90's. It's still dry as a dog bone out there, we need rain terribly. Normally I wear shorts, but this summer I'm enjoying breezy skirts.

Yesterday we got a couple purple water hyacinth to add to our water garden, as well as submergable plants, and curly grassy stuff, of which I don't remember the name.

Last night we made the first batch of basil pesto of the summer. At first I forgot the garlic; where is my head? It was yummy tossed with whole wheat penne.

Today I'm reorganizing and cleaning the studio, getting myself ready for some serious painting. I better get back to it.

Just returned from a little break, where I spent a lot of time with family and my sister, staring at the ocean.

What's new

a scene from the studio yesterday, amidst work

Yesterday my contributor copy of Lisa's new book Knot Thread Stitch arrived! Yay Lisa! It's beautiful and I look forward to pouring over the projects within. You can pre-order a signed copy directly from Lisa. The release date is July 1, 2012.

I listed some new summery cards of stripes and abstract flower shapes, printed with collagraph and wood blocks on my letterpress. There's also a few notebooks and cards on sale for a limited time. Check them out!

A new Sharing the Process post with Sandra Bonazoli & Jim Dowd of Beehive Kitchenware is up at Poppytalk!

I wrote a new post at tend. Have you visited lately? Yummy recipes and tips abound over there.

And, I just added a new painting to my homepage.

I think that about sums it up, for now. :)
