Sunday

We took a little drive with a brief detour along a byway, stopping at the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve. We sat under the cottonwoods and walnut trees eating a picnic brunch of homemade blueberry coconut muffins, hard boiled eggs, and an orange. Afterward we walked the trails, spotting several lizards, wild spiderwort, pink roses, prairie primrose, meadowlarks and swallows. With the sun warm on the top of our heads, we talked of taking a vacation, a real one. I could have stayed longer, much longer. sigh.

light & dark

The sun has been in and out of cloud cover this morning, light then dark. Trees bend in heavy winds and seeds twirl through the air. Now the sky is completely grey with leaves blinking silver. Mama robin sits diligently on her nest, about three arm lengths beyond the edge of my studio balcony. Loose strands of grasses hang underneath as she and the nest bob up and down in the wind.

up & down

Downtown: It's in the 90's here today; I walked to the post office, they said to watch the puddle, a little boy had accidentally peed on the floor, and I said I know how that is, I work in a preschool; a man was yelling at the atm machine where I needed to stop but I decided to keep on my way; a woman was walking arm in arm with an elderly woman, presumably her relative, I liked seeing that.

Home: Just finished an egg salad sandwich and tall jar of lemon water; our cats are laying around like pancakes in this heat; later I'll make a peanut butter smoothie, which I've been eating daily.

This week I've been picking up extra sessions at school; the children are making something beautiful for their mothers' day gifts. Now I'm going to clean the kitchen from top to bottom to prepare for something tomorrow. I'm looking forward to Friday, or actually tomorrow afternoon, when hopefully the busyness will calm and I can return to my easel.

Lately

Right now our rose bush is overflowing with pink, fragrant blooms, perhaps the most it has ever had. I've been cutting and filling jelly jars, placing them around the house and studio.

Lately I've been busy completing a commission for BSP, letterpress printing 300 two-color prints; painting in oil; moving into our renovated house and doing spring cleaning in the process; working in the garden; and getting out in the spring air. And now I'm about to leave for a haircut, but wanted to say hello since there haven't been many posts here recently. Hopefully soon I will share the print and paintings. Thanks for stopping in!
