Trying to think warm

Good morning,

It's so cold here, one entire degree. That's the temperature. And yet I admit that yesterday while walking home from school it seemed quite refreshing. {I surprised myself for thinking that.} But later when I went for a little walk in the snow with my film camera, it must have been too cold because the thing froze. And now it's still stuck so I think I will need to have it repaired. Boo.

I got a few of my original drawings back from Artstream and will be adding some to my Gallery Store. {They're really affordable, about 40 bucks.}

Thank you for all your comments in my last post, the blues are starting to turn to warmer hues.

And finally, there is more color to be seen at the Sub-Studio Holiday Gift Guide.

Till soon,
H

The blues

I have started writing this post three times now and keep deleting it all.  I'm feeling bah humbug lately and need to snap out of it.  So I'll simply share this photo tonight from a roll of film I just got back.  I savored this roll of film for two months.  Looking at photos now with autumn color makes me realize how subtly and yet so distinctly things change.

Perhaps you have a tip or two for dispelling the Christmas blues?

Stumps

I just listed these brand new little stump tags to my shop. You may recognize the stump from here or here. I like them blind debossed on these tags as well. Hope you like them too!

We're under a winter weather watch so I'm fixing some veggie chili, which may be the first batch of the season. Yesterday I made a couple loaves of cinnamon swirl bread so of course we'll have that on the side. Here's my recipe I posted last year. {on the exact same day, woah!}  Rachel made this bread today and it came out looking perfect.

} Over the weekend the new show at Artstream opened.  Go check it out.
} And on my wish list is Shari & Jen's new book, City:Country. It looks so beautiful doesn't it?

Good evening!

Inspired Finale

Jen has posted the final pair of Inspired. Yes, the last duo of our collaboration. That makes two of my projects that are ending, sniff sniff. Since she mentioned one of her favorites pairs, I mention I think this is one of mine {from april 2008} as is this one {from may 2008} and from this year I really like this one. It has been an amazing experience to work with Jen and I remarked to her today that I couldn't believe we began discussing Inspired exactly two years ago! And then we began shortly thereafter. What a nice way to mark time, by making a piece of art with someone and being inspired by them.  Thank you for letting us share all our pairs with you!

Now I am going to go make soup of some sort. Today I made two loaves of pilgrim's bread; I amended the recipe by adding flax meal and wheat gluten. That bread begs for some soup to sop up. And oh, I checked out A Christmas Story from the library. "You'll shoot your eye out!" Ha!

Have a nice evening,
H

Marking the days

December December. How did you arrive so soon? The last month of the year begins with anticipation for a glorious season, with new shows and and projects coming to an end, and the realization that another year is folding yet again into a new one. How does it happen?

First of all I want to share another glimpse of two of my pieces {above} that will be part of Incredible Print Show 2 at Artstream Studios, opening this Saturday. The top image shows the painting before I printed the woodgrain layer in silver ink.  I like the texture of the stick as I found it naturally on the ground contrasted with the clean lines of the wood board imprinted on top.  They are: "Found: ash and cedar" and "Found: elm and cedar", handmade watercolor and ink on paper, 9 in. x 9 in.  I'm happy to be part of this exhibition and look forward to seeing the work of the other artists. All the work will be available online at the time of the show opening, so stop on by for some of your holiday shopping and support handmade.

For Alicia and I, December marks the final month of our Noticing Project collaboration. We began here in January 2008 and have been pairing our photos daily for two years. It's really hard to believe as I look back on the first days and remember so clearly taking those photos as if it were five minutes ago. I've really loved working with Alicia and we have been constantly surprised at the synchronicities in our diptychs.  I'm proud of us, if I may say that, that we have made it a dedicated project, marking moments from each day with an image, noting the thing that catches our eye or our thoughts. We hope you will share in our final noticings as we draw this project to a close.

Check out the Artist Advent Calendar Stephanie is hosting all this month!

Thanks for reading today,
