Friday

............................

Last night I was remarking to my husband while we were fixing supper, how autumn always makes me feel very creative, yet that creativity doesn't come easily. The transition stirs me, and is agitating in a way that is not necessarily bad but doesn't feel especially good either. I feel I have been in transition for weeks now. I have ideas percolating, yet am waiting for the right time to share them. While I am in this creative waiting room, between seeing my ideas come to fruition, I am pacing and working and hoping that something "clicks" and something happens that I can roll with.

I have been making some small paintings using saturated colors and geometric shapes with handmade watercolor, which I may put in my Gallery Store soon. My mind is also also thinking in this direction as well, combining letterpress with drawing and painting. And these are on my mind as well.

And as I am writing this post, I am reminded why I began this blog in the first place, years ago. As a kind of studio journal, to help gather my working thoughts in written form, to record process, and maybe find a little clarity in all of it.

It's Friday. I hope you have a good one.

More images from our recent walk at the wetlands. I was hoping we would see a beaver but we only saw evidence in the form of clumped sticks and mounds.

A few days ago my husband asked me if I were going to do another charity project like the sequin hearts I made last year around Christmas. I can't believe it is nearly time to think about that again, can you?! I am not sure if I will do a project on my own, but the print I am making for the soon to be revealed project, I do know a portion of the proceeds will go to charity. I really cannot wait for them to launch, it will be so amazing.

I like this delicious company, Baking for Good, that donates 15% of it's profits to charity.

Here's the recipe for the Cheesy Herb Bread I made.

Ok, back to printing for me. I am almost finished!

Sharing a few glimpses of what I am working on in the studio this afternoon. I have been letterpress printing a five layer, five color {maybe six} print for a really awesome project that will soon be revealed {I don't think they've let the cat out of the bag yet}. I had some type blocks made from my drawings and this stump is just one of them. I have to say, I am smitten with this guy. From day to day I cover my inks with foil and noticed the smooth color traces on the crinkly shiny surface. And I am so excited to receive an issue of Art on Paper today! I love everything about this publication, the size, format, different papers they use for printing, and the ink smell. Not to mention it is so inspiring.

Now I'm sipping some hot tea and ready to get back to work. I left a comment in yesterday's post about the bread. I'll try to post the recipe there soon.

Happy 9.9.09!

Over the weekend I made a loaf of herbed cheese bread. I have never made a savory loaf like this but it was such a hit we've already finished it off! I think you could probably take a favorite dough recipe, divide the dough into sections {I made ten} and layer fresh chopped herbs and grated cheese between them, stacking them upward as you go. We ate the last two pieces last night with fried garden squash and okra, and slices of yellow tomatoes.

Did you notice I have changed my blog layout? I actually got slightly obsessed with it, researching and trying several different layouts, tweaking the css {by trial and lots of error}, but have landed with this one for now. There were others I liked too but just didn't feel they looked like me. The problem however with changing a layout is I lost all my widgets. So I will be rebuilding the blog list slowly.

Check out this installation, Rainbow Conversation by Rachel Hayes. Wish I could see it in person.

I have more printing to do today, how 'bout you?

We're just enjoying a day at home and finished a late breakfast of fried eggs, homemade biscuits and fruit. Are you having a nice day off?

We took a walk last night out at the wetlands, where I took this photo above. I have more to share from that golden evening. I was surprised by all the color.

Till soon,
