allowing inspiration

Good Monday to you,

Lately I've been allowing myself to become inspired by following some creative whims. I did some letterpress printing the other day, have been looking at the photography of William Eggleston repeatedly and reading and having conversations about process.

The photographs above {and credited below} are some recent favorites of mine.
1} layers by Martha
2} introducing hilda & romulus... by Kerry/lush bella
3} Sunday play by Elisabeth
4} swim pond from above by Shari
5} found by Sarah
6} thinking on process by Rachel

Also, I keep thinking I'm going to share my new work with you and then I think to myself "it's just not ready". But I will say I'm working on a body of work that is comprehensive in the respect that it involves photography, painting, and printmaking. Some larger pieces will go to a few gallery exhibitions and other venues and I am making smaller pieces in the hopes of having a shop update soon. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope something inspires your creativity today,
H

oh, and I changed the comment form here because some of you were saying you were having trouble with the word verification. I hope this helps and I also hope I don't get a bunch of spam. If that happens I'll have to go back.

drawings

made by sand sprawling vines and meandering lines of geese. As a friend said, there's "so much inspiration in nature." Isn't there though? I look at the sky every day and think {sometimes out loud} "wow. it's just amazing!" I've been drawing a bit lately too and will share soon, maybe a peek tomorrow. :)

Today was my first day teaching after the winter holiday and I realize it's now after 9 o'clock and I didn't really eat dinner {except for a bowl of homemade granola, which was rather yummy, but still, I'm hungry again}. So I'm off to find a bite...

and bid you sweet dreams of glorious skies,
H

ps. the second photo was taken a moment after this one.

state of heart

we walked out at the wetlands this weekend and I became fascinated with these seedpods.

It's a new day, a new week, and a new year. I have many thoughts streaming through my mind right now and this morning a sense of quiet feels important as I try to sew these ideas together into some kind of arrangement. And while my post is succinct I can't leave without sharing a few links that are playing part in this process.

} Habit {the new collaboration I couldn't wait to tell you about!}
} Am I Still Here? {upon a friend's recommendation}

I'm also thinking newness is a state of heart not determined by a calendar,
H

ps. a few of our favorite things is quite lovely.

more new

Good morning,

Last night was one of those nights where up I woke up before 2am and didn't want to sleep anymore because I wanted to paint. Do you ever do that?
Here's a glimpse of the new series I have begun this week which involves graphite, watercolor and pinholes on 12 x 15 inch paper. I find in January {as I recall the work I did this time last year} I make soft, open & abstract work. Hmmm, something I probably should investigate. Or not.

I'm also thrilled with our new noticing which began last evening!! We'd love for you to go see & let us know what you think.

There seems to be a number of other projects beginning as well. One I'm really excited about will have to wait until Monday!
But two new collaborations were announced yesterday :
} Abby and Chelsea's new project print + press.
} Shanna and Betsy will launch a wedding line this spring.
Yes, surprises await.

Also I'm pretty much loving all of Rachel's film and Hasselblad shots right now. Like {*} , {*} & {*}.

Alright, I'm off to paint my dreams. Have a nice end to your week!
H

beginnings

my sister at the beach

It's time {already} to say goodbye to one year and hello to another. I really feel 2008 flew by, I mean I remember distinct moments of the first days of this year like they were five minutes ago! I am thankful for this year and all the blessings it brought my husband and I. I hope you have some warm memories of 2008 as well.

Yet I am looking to 2009, to the openness of it like an open window of fresh air. I see new commitments, challenges, and adventures.

Today, on the last day of the year, I will be working quietly in my studio, starting a new series of drawings for an upcoming show. Ending a year with beginnings, that seems ok to me.

Something else new {that I've been silently excited about for some time} will be announced tonight over here, I hope you can stop by.

Well friends I hope that your new year is greeting you with faithful promise and much hope. Thank you for visiting me here, taking the time to look and read and share your thoughts. Each one of you makes this space so much brighter!

See you in 2009!
H
