some thank you's

I've been using this one paper towel as a blotter for my watercolor painting for the last 8 months. It has taken on a life of its own.

Hello,

Are you relieved it's Friday? I am. This week has been stressful and I'm ready to rest a little this weekend. Inspired by Jen, I'd like to make some banana bread. I have three ripe bananas waiting, and not for much longer.

There have been some really sweet people mentioning our Noticing Project on their blogs this week and we are so grateful to you! We also appreciate each comment that you leave about our diptychs. Thank you so much for the thoughtful interest and support you have given in this first week of our project.

Have you been seeing all the beautiful white posts that Cally is making? I really like the hole filled spoons made by Caroline Gomez in this post of hers.

have a bright and colorful weekend friends and family,
Heather

studio work : part 2

Hello all,

I mentioned yesterday I would post studio images from the past so I want to share with you the work of my parents.

I grew up in an artistic and creative family. My dad was a potter and my mom was a weaver. The top image is from dad's studio probably about 30 years ago and the second is my mom teaching a weaving class around 1980 at Arrowmont.

    {Mom, are you wondering where this image came from? Last year when I taught a painting workshop at Arrowmont, I went through their slide library {link to Arrowmont history} and found this! Karen Green, the gallery director said this is "magic" and that I have to have a copy, so she made me one. Yesterday when I was washing my hair, I remembered I had this on disc. Voila! An early birthday surprise to you Mom!}

The bottom image is me painting {or just mixing the paint} in dad's clay shop when I was about three years old. Maybe nothing has really changed...

Thank you for joining me on a little history trip,
Heather

studio work : part one

Hello friends and family,

I just want to share with you a few pictures from work in the studio on Tuesday.

1} sending something to a friend : noticed a reflection in the glass.
2} working can be a little messy
3} All I can say here is {making} art is so important {to me}. Words, thoughts, materials, and methods are imbued with meaning and intent.
While I was making this piece I was thinking about my identity as an artist {& person} and some sudden information I had just received. Without being sensationalized and weepy about it, "take my dreams and give them wings" is my prayer {for everyone}.

I like studio shots like this tidy one and sunny ones like this too.

Tomorrow I think I'll post studio images from a long time ago.

now's the time to dust off your dreams and fly...
Heather

walking, working...

Hello,
Above are a few images from our Sunday afternoon walk.

: The top instance made me think of Karin and her new collaboration focusing on power lines.
: And when I saw this post of Bibbi's today, looking at her bottom photo {& my bottom photo}, I smiled.
: A nice diptych by Shari

Tuesday is my studio day and I am excited to work on some new drawings and poke some holes... and now I have a new reason to look forward to afternoons, because I'll get to see what Alicia is photographing for our collaborative Noticing Project!! I'm so thrilled she is part of it.

...noticing along the way,
Heather
