it's monday already?!

I think I pressed my snooze button four times this morning, I wasn't entirely sure it was a day I needed to get up early. But it is. And I only have a few moments to post as I'm getting ready to go teach today. I hope you had a nice weekend! Did you?

I have several surprises to share but they will have to wait until this evening when I have more time to write. In the meantime, enjoy Monday and go check out the new links I just added to "10.15 this weeks new :: inspiring :: interesting :: creative people" in the right column.
Until soon...

:: polaroid I took this summer one day at art's based preschool, where I teach.

friday inspired

Sometimes all I have to do is look down or around and I see something that inspires me, like these textures on a rock and spots on a hollyhock leaf. The rock reminds me of ancient pictographs on rock walls we saw in Utah a number of years ago. And as for the hollyhock leaf I guess I'm just drawn to things with spots or holes. What can I say?
I hope you have an inspired weekend...
cooking
sewing
stitching
cleaning
walking and looking
or whatever you do!

THANK YOU!

Thank you everyone for your kind comments, congrats, and well wishes on my new studio. I appreciate it so much and it's so wonderful to hear your encouraging words from all over the globe. THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

I'm moving one thing in to the studio at a time, I'm so slow. I stop and look at it, and bring up the next thing. Sometimes I wish I didn't have stuff. I'm going to see what I can eliminate.
I'm also thinking about my pinhole work for the "Mapping the way" show at Artstream. That is what is lain across the table.
My husband made this table; it comes apart and I think he based the design from antique harvest tables. The top is book matched walnut with maple detail. I heart this table so much. He made it to be a dining table, and now it's my drawing table. :)

TA DA!!! pictures of my new studio

All day today I swept, vacuumed, washed windows, mopped, etc. in my new studio to get it ready. Here's some pictures that I'm so excited to share with you. To see the full stream of photos that span the three year (so far) process, go here. My husband, M. is the architect, contractor, builder, craftsman, woodworker, etc. of the project.

About some of the materials:
:: my new space is 20 ft. x 26 ft.
:: We harvested the interior doors, trim, and flooring from an old house that belongs to M.'s parents. It is in the process of deconstruction for materials. The flooring is yellow pine and is all tongue and groove. He installed it, sanded and refinished it.
:: Some of the windows are found and some M. built. The ones he made are extruded polycarbonate panes with oak sashes and jambs. The oak is from a tree cut locally that M. milled. M. designed the building to accomodate our eclectic mix of windows.
:: The entry door is oak and M. got it about seven years ago when in school at KU. The fifth floor of the art building was being remodeled, and he saw these doors. One of the professors asked him if he wanted them. He said yes. They're so heavy he dragged them to the elevator and loaded them up in his truck.

I know there is so much more to tell you, but it is late and I am not thinking of it all now. But as I begin to move furniture and supplies in I will take photos and think of things I want to mention. As some friends of ours said a few days ago when they stopped by, 'it's new and yet it has features that feel antique'. I agree.

:: my face looks like this :) with a few tears of joy.

Now, i'm so tired, and must go to sleep, as tomorrow is another day; a day in which I teach. I hope you enjoy the pictures and have a great Wednesday!

These lanterns from our yard were the inspiration for this drawing that I posted last week. I'm posting this picture because today was a hairy and hectic Monday teaching and somewhat frustrating. This is maybe just a moment of calm.
Tonight I finished color matching all the nail holes in my studio, which was a relaxing activity. I am so hoping to post some "TA DA!!!" pictures in a day or two, so please stay tuned!

more calm: our dinner tonight
more orange: a beautiful image of bittersweet by maditi
more hope: a handmade sterling & pearl necklace, "Caden's Hope" to benefit Caden White, fellow artists' four year old son fighting neuroblastoma.
