oops

Do you ever have an "oops" day? I'm having an "oops" kind of week. (Like this film shot, I took a wrong light meter reading. Oops.)
Perhaps in eagerness for spring I sometimes meet all the change with a bit of clumsiness. At least there's moments of grace in the midst of crankiness and meltdowns.  Our daffodils are in full bloom, this was tasty and we saw lots of otters at the wetlands one evening.

Do you have a terrarium? I really want to make one.

granola bars

This weekend I tried making granola bars out of my new favorite granola recipe from Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day. I wondered if the granola would hold shape if I added milled flax seed and water? So I mixed 2T. flax seed into 6T. water, let it sit a couple minutes to thicken, then stirred it in with the ingredients. It worked pretty well. I may try adding another T. next time. This morning M. packed these in his work lunch so he won't have to buy a power bar during a hunger attack. And I like them crumbled on top of frozen mixed berries and vanilla yogurt. Mmmm.

happy spring!

This week has been my spring break so I've taken the opportunity to work long uninterrupted hours on a very special project. A project that has been going for quite a while, which is partly why I've been a little scarce around here. I'm excited I'll get to share it with you soon!

So taking a little work break and with the official debut of spring coming this weekend I'm choosing a few of my favorite cards to rotate on my inspiration wall.  Clockwise from top left : Lisa Solomon, Sheri Reed at this joy + ride, Rachel SaldanaEmily at Shining Egg, Gracia Haby & Louise Jennison, Jen Causey at Simply Photo, Shu Fang Lee from Polaroid Notes, Geninne Zlatkis from Lark Books for Craft Hope for Haiti, Jennifer Judd-McGee, Duncan Johnson, and Jeffrey Isom.

Congratulations to Shari who is now guest blogging at The Stir, a Cafe Mom blog.

Happy Spring!

On the corner of my studio table lots of bits are clustering.  And now the sun just came out this mid-afternoon, making it seem like a new day beginning in the middle of a grey one.  I rather like it.

A couple links before I make more Irish Breakfast tea, snatch another peanut butter cookie and get back to work work work:

The light colors Ellie picked here today are refreshing.  Her blog is so lovely, isn't it?

Two artists whose color palettes and materials are inspiring me right now Nadine Y. Nakanishi and Winifred Lutz.

needing some inspiration

Last week I picked up this mid 1800's etching at an antique shop for less than the cost of a sub sandwich and it's already earned it's keep. Gazing at this tiny ocean even helped me solve a problem in a piece I was working on yesterday.

In springtime news we have crocus blooming and I wouldn't be surprised if our daffodils start showing color next week or so. Plus we've planted sugar snaps, radishes, kale, and bok choy in the ground. Indoors we've begun some crops too like broccoli and peppers to transfer later.

Sorry for the sporadic posts lately.  I'm completely immersed in my work, surely you know how that goes.  Hopefully my head will pop up from the ground before too much longer, perhaps before the daisies!

Colorful inspiration not to be missed :
