A pinhole leaf, UPPERCASE & Poppytalk

You know how ideas come to you suddenly and inexplicably sometimes? Even though I have been doing pinhole work for nearly ten years, I think yesterday was the first time I had used a leaf as my paper. Here's another view of the bird.

UPPERCASE Magazine Issue 3 arrived in my mailbox yesterday, and wow, it is another jaw dropper. So many amazing articles including a piece on Geninne's lovely studio. There's also a piece about Martha written by yours truly. It was such an honor to write the Blog Beautiful feature about her and I just think Janine and her staff do stellar work, don't you?

And my last little bit of news is almost news to me as well. Somehow I misplaced an entire week of October. I thought I had another week before the Poppytalk Handmade Indie Love Market. {smacking hand to forehead!} It opens this Monday, Oct. 19 and needless to say I am thrilled to be part of it again.  Jan does such a great job. So I will be making this print "hope SEEDS" available in conjunction with the new PHM.

I bid you a happy one,
H

Notes

I'm quiet today, so I simply want to share a haiku I wrote, and two photo links.

The Working Proof

{Recent drawings, working with layering.}

Have you seen the amazing new project called The Working Proof? It is founded by Anna Corpron and Sean Auyeung, also known as Sub-Studio. It's is an online print gallery and shop with the mission of promoting both art and social responsibility through a series of limited-edition prints. Each print is paired with a charity of the artist's choice and part of the proceeds benefit that charity. A new print is debuted per week on Tuesdays at 1:30pm, EST. The first piece is by Samantha Hahn, go check it out! You will also be seeing a new print from me in upcoming weeks, I'll keep you posted. You can also sign up for their newsletter to get advance notice of new releases or follow them on twitter!

Thank you for sharing your impressions and experiences about flu vaccines. When M. got home last night he said "You know, 'they're' saying everyone should just get the H1N1 vaccine when it become available." That wasn't exactly what I was expecting to hear from him. So far in the my poll, the "NO's" have more votes.

Busy day ahead, see ya!
H

ps. Sorry, my photo really doesn't have anything to do w/ the post. I just wanted to show you ideas I'm considering for upcoming work.}

Working, thinking, printing and the flu vaccine

Yesterday I worked in my studio, at times with utter quiet. No voices coming from below, or music, and I didn't have my radio on the whole time. I worked without distraction and could hear myself think. I remembered when I did a two week artist residency one summer in Vermont and I worked for that time with absolutely no music or radio in a studio on a hill surrounded by a big field. I was so productive during those two weeks.

When I did have the radio on yesterday there was talk about H1N1 and the flu vaccine. I usually do not get the flu shot but am wavering slightly this year. What's your take on that? Are you getting a flu shot? I'm taking a little poll in the sidebar.

And here is the lithography print I promised I'd share, this image shows it after layer three. I am working on another layer and color.  What do you think?

Gathering & drawing

Straightening the clutter that has been growing around me.

I also am working on a new lithography print, perhaps I'll share that next time.

It's a grey Monday here today which I don't really mind. During my walk to school this cool morning I realized how clean and dark the trees look against the pale grey sky. And the soft yellow and deep red leaves are more vibrant. I found a nice yellow oak leaf on my walk home, remembering last year finding red ones.

Tonight we will have leftover lentils with rice and baked apple crisp. Yum.
