Today, on my studio day wedged between teaching days, my brain has been bouncing around fifteen hundred ideas and thoughts. So in order to harness that activity I looked at the new Domino, looked at spring film images I shot last year, took a brisk walk downtown, made a new arrangement {which I'll share tomorrow}, and finally began a large version of this.

What do you do when your brain works overtime?
And oh, does anyone know when the last Domino issue is?

Inspired : 11

Hi,

As I mentioned yesterday Jen and I are sharing our final Inspired duos tonight. Above is her response to my piece and here's our other final pair and a closer view of my response.

I've been thrilled to work with Jen over the course of this eleven month collaboration and I appreciate the joy and challenge it brought. It was also interesting to recognize my working processes with each new piece and response. Inspired was quite an amazing and happy experience to say the least.

In fact, this may not be the last you see from the two of us, as we're cooking up something else. We'll keep you posted...

I hope you're well tonight. I still have to go cook something to eat.

cookie hearts

Hi :)

The other night I made peanut butter cookies and as I was stirring the batter I thought to myself, "Why do these cookies have to be round?". "They don't". "How about hearts?"

Well anyway, it sounded fun and like a good excuse to play with the dough. So after chilling it a while and working on the bread that I was also making, I made the hearts this way:
} take a big spoonful of dough & divide it in half
} roll each half into a ball and then into a fat worm shape
} lay them on the cookie sheet in a v-shape and pinch slightly at the point
} then flatten them with a fork
} voila, little peanut butter hearts.

I rarely follow a recipe exactly {sometimes that gets me into trouble}, so I also threw in some wheat germ and milled flax seed. {I'd like to develop my own recipe, working on that.} And since I felt the cookies could have been slightly sweeter I dipped them in melted semi-sweet chocolate. Yep, that did the trick.

Guess what? Tomorrow Jen and I will share our December Inspired responses. Shhh, we know it's February.

sundays and neighbors

Hi you :)

First of all, I hope you had a really, really nice weekend. Ours was quite full with the delicacy show opening, cleaning, working, visiting with friends, and baking on Sunday. Sundays are good for...

... going to church and really thinking about what it means to "love your neighbor as yourself".
... making pancakes for brunch
... two hour naps! {I guess I was pretty tired from the week.}
... baking two loaves of oatmeal bread
... baking peanut butter cookies, in heart shapes.
... deciding to make vegetable soup but then realizing you only have 30 minutes until Desperate Housewives comes on and you decide to make spaghetti instead.

.... HERE'S THE IMPORTANT PART OF THIS POST ....
I know that in Victoria folks have not had a great time of it and sweet Jeana has posted links to ways we can help. She also has a photo set of the bushfires.

Even here in the middle of Kansas, people in Australia are neighbors, right? I've decided {just as I've been typing this post} that from today until the end of Wednesday, when anyone purchases either the "finding winter, neighborhood" or "finding winter, blue" photo set in my shop that 80% of the profits will be donated to the Salvation Army Bushfire Relief. I will also announce this in my shop and over here, a new awesome site Jan has set up. Will you help by spreading the word?

Thanks friends,
H
