today

Hi,

Today I drove to Topeka to deliver some work for a show opening next week {more info soon}. While looking alongside the roads at all the grey and ochre hues of dried grasses and wildflowers, I noticed one short patch of coppery pink grasses. Did I really see that I thought? I did. And it helped me decide on a color today for the final element of this limited edition print. It is part of my "finding winter, drawing spring" collection, going in the shop Feb. 3.

Tuesday we will be continuing our posts on process at echoes, we'd love for you to drop by.

till tomorrow,

Hi :)

So I intended to do a lot of printing today but then I've been sneezing like crazy. Not sure if it's allergies or cold but I took some cold medicine then BAM, I fell asleep. No big deal. So I've got a pot of tofu noodle soup simmering on the stove.

I love lots of color but I also adore monochromes...
Have you seen the photography of Robert Adams? We watched a segment on his work last night and I keep thinking about his sparse and epic landscapes of the west. They have a mournful and yet hopeful poetry about them.

{excuse me. I just sneezed five times.}

I hope you're having a colorful weekend,

artists' inspirations

So I've been feeling I need to visit some art museums to refill the art tank. These photos have me recalling some inspiring works of art.

last bus of the day by Martha has me thinking of the Abstraktes of Gerhard Richter {this watercolor just shot an arrow straight through my heart} ; winter woods by Shari recalls Christian Boltanski ;
{film.194} by Rachel immediately made me think of Marco Maggi, ; Untitled by my sister, could that landscape be any more surreal?

Do these images have you thinking of anything, art or otherwise? {And oh, if you get lost meandering any of those sites, like I am, don't blame me. Blame the art. :) }

do you ever?

have the kind of day where it winds up not exactly where you intended but it actually comes out better? I had something like that happen today. On the way home from the post office I stopped in one of my favorite galleries, Signs of Life and was able to catch up with the owners. I'll have some work {mostly oil paintings} in their new show opening this Friday. {If you're curious which pieces, #2, #9, #15, & #19 from their website's slide show will be included.}

Also I'm busy getting work ready for a shop update that I am hoping to do by Tuesday, February 3. The stack above is a brand new series called "whisper". I have other new things I'm excited about and will share soon! {And I forgot to mention yesterday that I listed two new small pinhole pieces.}

launching wednesday }
} two days in july, a collaboration between a painter and a poet Sarah Ahearn Bellemare & Kate Stavish.
} the first set of print + press, and there will only be 20 available!

I'm hungry, I believe it's time to go heat up some chili. Did you watch the inauguration today?
